Reflection
This program has helped me realize many things; before, although I was a large advocate for community service, I never really read the news, and just listened if my mom said there was something important going on. Now I check the news daily and have important global news that is sent directly to my phone via email.
I’ve begun to learn by writing and reading other people’s articles how to write better news articles, and not only put in your own opinion but also makes it mostly facts as well. Researching so much has made me better and faster at finding the good hard facts that are not only informational but also interesting that I feel passion for. I’ve realized there is so much social injustice that is going on all around the world, and there are ways I can put a stop to it as well.
As for the $1000 scholarship money, I would like to use it on my non-profit 501©3 organization and start a grant program that gives mini-scholarships to other kids who want to start their own community service projects but need a boost or some extra funds.
My next step, as I previously said, is to make mini-grants, but because I have learned so much about the news through this program, I would like to have the grant applications include a news article about social injustice that they read about in the news. Not only this, but I would like to continue writing blogs about important things that I learn that’s about America but also around the world.
Honestly, at first I thought writing articles was a breeze. It seemed like something anyone could do. I discovered it IS something anyone can do, but they have to have good examples around them so they can learn as well. Being part of the East Villagers Program has been such an honor and although it was a little tough, I really enjoyed it.
